This post was inspired by our January #LitHappens selection: Table For Six: Sitting here comes at a price by Rosemary Willhide.

On the Page
This month Wendy of A Day in the Life on the Farm selected Table For Six: Sitting here comes at a price by Rosemary Willhide. It was a breeze, but I had two major thoughts upon reading it. First, I am grateful that the book was free for Kindle Unlimited subscribers; second, how is every single character unlikeable?!
We meet five authors and a social media influencer who are looking at The Rock and Roll Romance book signing in Las Vegas to boost their book sales and circle of influence. The only issue is that the writers are a clique of mean girls who have ostracized one of their own. But Gillian Stark is hoping that this year's even - along with Ava Winters, the TikTok influencer - will launch her back into popularity with the readers and the writers.
This is full of people behaving badly, including affairs, temper tantrums, and more. I have to say that it is rare for me to read a book in which I don't like a single person! Not a one. Wendy pointed out, in our online discussion, that her favorite character was one of the ex-husbands. I agree. However, I found him unrealistically forgiving. Still, it read quickly and I did finish it. So, that is something, right?
On the Plate
Though this is not a must-cook-from-the-book kinda group, I almost always can find some inspiration to head into the kitchen.
Since the women do meet for meals and drinks, there was plenty of food mentioned. "'I’ll have the warm chicken salad, hold the cheese, and please put the signature dressing on the side,' Sydney requested. 'Could I please get the protein bowl with chicken?' Beth inquired. The waitress nodded, kept writing, and looked at me. 'Um, the Margherita Pizza sounds good. I’ll have that.' Beth winked. 'Hey, pizza and beer. Great combo.' 'And for you, ma’am?' the waitress said to Penny. 'What are my vegan options?' she responded. Vegan my ass. I’d seen this girl pack away more burgers than Wimpy from the Popeye cartoon. This could turn out to be a tedious lunch'" (pg. 20).
There were mentions of portabello mushroom bowls, guacamole, fish tacos, and more. But what sent me into the kitchen was this from page 213.
How about some food? Haley says, 'Dad, your omelets are dope.' 'Yeah. I’ll have a dope omelet.'
My 'dope omelet' is one that was inspired by The Bear Season 2, Episode 9 in which Sydney makes Natalie an epic omelet. I make omelets often both for brunch as well as dinner. It's such a flexible dish! Above are my mushroom-spinach omelet; masala omelet; and Gheysavah, a Persian omelet with dates and cinnamon.
But, as I mentioned, the Dope Omelet is the one inspired by the dish that Sydney made for Natalie. It's filled with boursin and topped with chips.
Ingredients
3 eggs
water
butter
boursin cheese
potato chips (I used a ridged horseradish chip from Trader Joe's)
Procedure
Beat your eggs with a splash of water until the yolks and whites are well-blended. Heat a skillet and melt a pat of butter, swirling it around until the pan is completely coated. Pour in the beaten egg and let the edges set a bit. It shouldn't take too long. Using a spatula, lift the edges of the omelet and swirl the pan to let the liquid eggs flow beneath.
When the eggs are mostly set, spread the boursin over the eggs - on one half. Fold the omelet in half and slide it onto your plate. Some people like their omelets in thirds; I've always done it in half.
To serve, scatter some crushed chips over the omelet and serve hot.
I am adding this to the January 2025 #FoodieReads Link-Up.
I love a good omelet!
Omelets are always a great option for any meal, even one celebrating a meh book.
Perfect as it's made with things I almost always have on hand.
