In February I invited the Movies & Munchies bloggers to join me in watching one of my favorite rom-coms, 13 Going on 30.

Here's what the group was inspired to make and share. Click on the recipe title to go to the original blogpost.

Wendy noted that there was a lot of snack food in the movie, but ended inspired by this... "But the most prominent food was Razzles....that iconic candy/gum from the 1970's. I don't know how to make Razzles, nor could I think of a way to use Razzles in a recipe, but I did find a Razzle Smoothie that I enjoyed for breakfast one day. I hope you enjoy it too. I really enjoyed this movie. It is a typical romcom and perfect for Valentine's Day viewing."

Debra's thoughts: "This was such a cute movie. I loved experiencing the 1987 fashions again—scrunchies, high ponytails, bright colors. It was great to go down memory lane with the music too—The Go Gos, Brandy Carlisle (solo), Rick Springfield (!!!), Michael Jackson, Talking Heads, Madonna, et al." Then she revisited her award winning Pina Colada cake, sharing, "I decided to morph this old recipe into a festive cupcake, perfect for a birthday party (or Valentine’s Day). Wouldn’t 13-year-olds think they were pretty chic to be allowed to eat these?"

Terri invited us: "Enter the world of '13 Going on 30' where whimsical storytelling meets delectable culinary creations! This iconic film isn't just about time travel and coming-of-age; it also serves up a feast of food inspiration that will tantalize your taste buds and transport you straight to the heart of every scene." She noted that the "film captures how food can evoke nostalgia, symbolize relationships, and even highlight the contrasts between innocence and maturity. Each meal or snack is not merely a part of the setting; it embodies the emotional states of the characters, serving as a metaphor for their growth and transformation." Then she shared her recipe for New York-Style Pizza Crust. I can't wait to try this the next time my gluten-free husband is out for the evening.

After my first attempt at a coquette heart cake - for this month's movie pick - I ended up making three more coquette heart cakes. I asked my best friends for their favorite colors and attempted to make them a version. I have found that vegetable and fruit-based food colorings result in less vivid hues. But, at least, they aren't make with chemicals, right? The process I used for these cakes are the same as the one I made for my 13 Going on 30 post.

I gave all these to Jenn, Pia, and Soraya at our Galentines' Day brunch earlier in February. Cheers!
That's a wrap for the February #MoviesandMunchies round-up. Stay tuned for next month when we will be watching a movie with an Irish tie-in or setting/ Can't wait!
Great round up! Thanks for hosting!!!!
